Another week in New York City goes down in the history books. This week was the best yet, as my confidence in recognizing my place in The City has grown exponentially. I may one day very soon replace the phrase “I got lost” with “I took a detour”. It feels so good be oriented.
This week I’m grateful for finding one of the world’s most celebration-worthy resources. TRADER JOE’S YA’LL!!! I realize I’m waaaay late for this party, as Meredith has been pimping this bargain grocery experience to me for years, but I’ve never lived near one until now. In a city filled with disappointing customer service and sky-high prices, Trader Joe’s makes me wanna make out with somebody. I purchased enough food to make five full meals and a simple goat cheese and bruschetta spread. I bought a few condiments, some snacky things, several large bottles of juice, and paid for them to deliver it all to my doorstep all for under $100. That’s next to impossible ’round these parts. For once, I saved my receipt. I knew it would turn George on.
As to not bore the world with dachshund photo overload, I do my best to cling to my friends with kids in hopes they allow me to play paparazzi with their offspring. This week, say hello to sweet baby Brady. He loves Sesame Street, whole milk, and world peace. He’s from New York. He’s cultchah’d, people!
I will most likely be singing a different tune when I’m still scarfed up and frigid in March, but I have to pay my respects to the extremely generous weather I’ve experienced since moving to the Northeast. I’m not saying I want to put on a bikini, but it was in the 50′s for a bit over the weekend! Walking these streets without the attack of my abominable snowman wardrobe was freeing and perfect. We took advantage of the weather and chose to explore the East Village. I was able to see distinguishable differences in the scenery and vibe and flow of the East Village compared to the Upper East Side. It was artsier (some of the lightposts were even adorned with zip-tie art), and a bit more hip. We consumed delicious food, saw beautiful buildings, appreciated graffiti, observed Mulchfest, and strolled through the park. I want everyday to be a weekend. With 50 degree temperatures. If New York City doesn’t watch it, I may never leave.

Each one is fantastic…… Keep up the great work D I L……. Enjoy your trip. Love you.
Thanks! This is the most spontaneous trip of my life. Your son is the best husband I've ever had.
How gorgeous is New York???
And dark chocolate sea salt caramels??? I die.
Yeah, those dudes are delicious. I'm going to write a separate post for this sometime this week or next, but I had ice cream the other day with caramel and salt on it. There really is no reason not to just salt everything, right?
omg, I would be lost without TJ's. Amazing!
It has been so awesome. Angels sing when I walk in the doors.
Stunning as always, friend!
{And eek! Trader Joe's is so very swoon-worthy, yes?}
Love seeing this slice of your days!
YES! It's so great. I have yet to find something they make that isn't delicious. We ate "Charmingly Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies" yesterday. Pretty dang good for cookies from a bag!
Gah, I love New York! And your photos are gorgeous!
I need to venture out to Trader Joe's. We have one that's semi-close but I've never been there.
DO IT! The prices are incredible. Well, at least they are compared to the prices of anywhere else in the city. Do you experience insane prices in NJ?
ack you're really making me miss NYC! i haven't been in years. and this year i'm turning 40 and wondering if maybe i shouldn't do something special like get my arse back to that city! hmm.
Do it! Do it! Do it! *pounds fists on the table to elicit caving from the peer pressure*
Bring Lovie if you come. I'll babysit!!!!
Those seas salt caramels look divine!
They are incredibly good. I thought the caramel would be kind of hard and chewy, but it's not. It's almost runny. Delicious!
These pictures are beautiful…seriously, I know why my dad thought you were a professional photographer.
Aw, thanks! Good luck tomorrow! Kick some ass!
Gorgeous pics, Jen! Thanks for giving us a peek into your daily life
Thanks for caring enough TO peek.
OH I wish we had a Trader Joe's here. Jealous.
I love all these photos! I saw the mulchfest too, my favourite is the little gray pigeon mascot for recycling in NY…is it weird if I recycle mainly to please Recycling Pigeon? Y'know who I mean.
