Photo Gratitude

by Jen on November 27, 2011

Happy belated Thanksgiving!  Are you still wearing elastic waisted pants?  I am, but I almost always do, so that doesn’t really say a whole lot.  When I get to New York, I’m definitely going to start that diet.  (Sure I will.)

Because I’m living out of suitcases at Alisha’s house, I’ve felt a little out of sorts.  My camera didn’t go with me as many places as usual this week, but fortunately, I have a whole lot of photo inspiration right inside my temporary home.  Four year olds are good for that.

It’s been a week since I moved in with Jayden and Sophia.  As an adult, I’ve not lived with children, so I’ve been surprised to learn how quickly their routines have become my routines,   Jayden usually wakes me up, wrapped in a towel from his morning shower.  He then crawls into bed with me until it’s time to finish getting ready for school.  This might be my new, most favorite time of the whole day.

Sophia is a sextuple threat.  Actress.  Model.  Singer.  Song Writer.  Dancer.  Story Teller.  I hesitate to reveal her most recent song lyrics for fear you might steal her idea and make millions, but feast your eyes (and ears) on this poetic gem, which I’m most certain is sung in the key of D flat.

“I don’t wanna cry.  To the opah sties.  I was jahla fies.  Because I care too much.”

She’s four.  And passionate.

Anyway, it’s been an adventure living with them, so here are a few photos of some of my favorite moments with them this week.

My husband lives in New York City.  I’ve sold both our cars, emptied out our home, prepared it for renters, and am winding up my final days as a Tallahassee career girl.  My stress is minimal.  My “to do” list is short.  I have very few responsibilities left.  Celebrate!  Tear up the town!  Act a fool! Or….. spend Saturday night babysitting???  Ummmm, YEAH!!!

I spent my wild and crazy Saturday night making pizza, playing games, painting tiny toe nails, and watching cartoons with Sophia, Jayden, Della, and Mason.  They were rambunctious, busy, and totally well behaved.  Kids are EXHAUSTING and So. Much. Fun.

I usually write from my bed.  Jayden has helped me create a new blog central.  I might need one of these Spiderman jobbies in New York.

Speaking of New York and Spiderman, I’ve never given two hoots about the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade until George was able to attend.  He snapped the photo of Spiderman for Jayden because he’s a good “Uncle George”.  Jayden was pleased.

And finally, I’m grateful for the technology that helps me stay in touch with George while he’s navigating the streets of our new city.  Can you imagine living without a camera phone?  I can’t.  George has been sending pictures to help me feel included.  Just ten more days, and I’ll no longer need his cell phone shots.  🙂
