My Oprah, My Friend.

by Jen on May 23, 2011

I’ve really been dreading this.  I’ve been counting down the days with angst and hesitation.  I don’t want you to go.  I don’t want to be without you through the week.  Sure, I know we’ll see each other around, but it won’t be the same.
I understand, though.  Ya gotta go out on top.  You’ve conquered more than I’m sure you ever thought possible.  You’ve been a dream maker, a problem solver, a friend, and an educator.  You will forever be the answer to the party question, “If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be?”  No pausing.  It’s you.  But that doesn’t make me unique.  I’m sure I’m one of a ba-jillion people with that answer.
It wasn’t until I got a DVR that you and I really became friends.  When that happened, we “sort of” had dinner together every night.  I was single then, of course.  Now that George is in the picture, I typically watch your show while I’m getting ready for work.
And the best part???  You taught me that once I know better, I do better.  And you were right.  Well, you and Maya Angelou, of course.
I joke a lot about you being my God.  (Would it matter to you to know that I have a specific tag for you on my blog, and I’ve mentioned you in a lame post about 95 (give or take) times?)  I’m not really joking.  I’ve not always agreed with you.  I’ve not always felt we were on the same page, but I’ve always admired you.  I’ve always learned from you.  And I’ve always hoped my light will shine as bright as yours.
Thank you for entertaining me, for making me think, for raising my awareness, and for helping build my dreams.
Now, go!  Take a vacation… and live your best life!

Oprah, Oprah. I sort of have a love/ hate relationship with Oprah, unbeknownst to her. I used to watch her every single day when I was pregnant and practicing to be a SAHM. She will be missed! Though I suspect we won't be seeing the last of her just yet..

So true!! She has taught us so much – there will be a huge void when she's gone! I guess I will have to get her mag….

I don't have the strength to think about this either. And we became BFFs after DVR, too.I'll DVR it, and watch it in private, with a vat of ice cream and box of tissues, crying in private. 😉

You know she's just going to come back even bigger than before. Now she'll have her own network…
